- INTRODUCTION
-
- TicIt is a FidoNet TIC Processor written expressly for the TriBBS
- Bulletin Board System. As such, it can take incoming FidoNet TIC
- Files and toss the accompanying file directly into the TriBBS file
- base and create TIC's for your FidoNet downlinks. Additionally,
- TicIt supports FrontDoor-type mailers. It supports points and all of
- the most widely used compression programs. TicIt also supports a
- large number of ALLFIX features to allow your downlinks to
- automatically request echos without the need for you to intervene.
-
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-
- TicIt requires 400k free memory, an AT-Compatible machine, and
- TriBBS 10.0 or TriBBS/Pro 10.0
-
-
- SETTING UP TICIT
-
- The first step in setting up TicIt is to create a directory for it.
- Use a DOS command similar to the following to create your TicIt
- directory:
-
- MD \TICIT
-
- Next, copy the files TICSETUP.EXE and TICIT.EXE to the newly-created
- TicIt directory with a DOS command like the following:
-
- COPY TICSETUP.EXE \TICIT
- COPY TICIT.EXE \TICIT
-
-
- THE TICIT CONFIGURATION PROGRAM
- ---------------------------------
-
- The TicIt configuration program, TICSETUP.EXE, is used to configure
- TicIt to toss and scan files. To run the configuration program,
- simply enter TICSETUP at the DOS prompt. TICSETUP will present you
- with its main menu, which consists of the following options:
-
- File System Areas Nodes
- │ │ │ │
- Read Manual │ Edit Areas │
- Exit │ Import RAID Format │
- BBS Options Node Editor
- Tic & Mail Options Uplink Editor
- AKAs
- Archivers
-
- To select one of these options, move the highlight bar with the arrow
- keys and press <ENTER>.

-
- BBS Name
- The BBS Name is simply the name of your BBS.
-
- Sysop
- Your own name, note: This field is used for registration
- purposes.
-
- Origin
- The Origin line appended to some outgoing ALLFIX messages.
-
- TriBBS
- The path to TriBBS's Main Node, Node 1's directory. Required.
-
- Netmail
- The path to your front-end mailer's netmail directory. This is
- an optional field for those who plan to use AllFix and support
- downlinks.
-
- INBound
- This is the path to incoming TIC files and their accompanying
- files. Required.
-
- OutBound
- This is where TicIt will place outbound *.TIC files if you're
- hubbing to downlinks. Optional.
-
-
-
-
-
- - 2 -
-
-
-
-
- Bad Files
- Where to place files that have failed a check for one reason
- or another. Required.
-
- Virus Scanner
- This is the name and/or path to your virus scanner and any
- command line options needed. This is optional but is required
- if Scan Files is set to YES.
-
- Bulletin
- This is the path and/or filename of the bulletin file TicIt
- will create with a report of its activities. Optional.
-
- Log File
- This is the path and/or filename of the TicIt log file.
-
- Pass Through
- This is the directory where pass-through files for your nodes
- will be stored. If you hub files and have pass-through areas
- (file areas for your nodes not included in your normal file
- areas) this field is required, otherwise it's optional.
-
- Magic File
- The path and filename of your mailer's "magic" filename file.
- This file holds alias names so that someone File Requesting
- (FREQ) files need not know the exact filename of a file but
- can request it using a "magic name". Optional.
-
- Convert To
- TicIt can convert files stored in one archive type to another
- type so all your files will be the same archive type. Valid
- options: ZIP,ARJ,LZH,PAK,ZOO,ARC, or left blank to not convert.

- ╚═════════════════════════════════════════════╝
-
- Hub Mode
- Hub Mode specifies whether or not to hub files out, This is
- more or less a failsafe for TicIt if you're having problems
- with TicIt sending to people when you don't want it to. This
- is mainly left over from version 1.00, but it's helpful :)
-
- Scan Files
- This needs to be on if you want to scan incoming files for
- virii.
-
- Honor Replace
- TICs have a verb in them called REPLACE which does what it says.
- It tells TicIt to replace a specific existing file in your
- file area with the one in the TIC. This is a failsafe to honor
- or not honor the REPLACE verb. I personally don't honor them,
- but some Sysops wanted it :)
-
- Strip High Ascii
- Simply strips High Ascii from incoming FILE_ID.DIZ's. Tells
- TicIt whether or not to Strip High Ascii from the incoming TIC
- files. If you dislike how DIZ's look when they have boxes,
- etc., around them and TriBBS's file list screws them up, I
- recommend setting this to ON.
-
- Local FLG
- Puts the "Local" flag on outgoing messages. Some mailers
- require the Local Flag option to be set on outgoing messages
- with your address. I recommend this setting be ON.
-
- Kill FLG
- Puts the "Kill" flag on outgoing messages. Simply tells
- whether or not to delete the outgoing message after it's sent
- to the recieving system. I recommend putting the Kill Flag ON.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 4 -
-
- Send Type
- This sets the routing flag on outgoing messages. This can be
- set to Direct, Hold, Crash, or None. Direct will send messages
- direct to its recipient without allowing your mailer to route
- it. Hold causes outgoing messages to wait in your mailer until
- its recipient calls and picks it up. Crash sends the message
- to its recipient as soon as it possibly can. None allows the
- mailer to determine how the outgoing message is transferred.
-
- Kill File
- Set either the Delete or the Trucate flag on outgoing messages
- for files. Delete will physically delete the outgoing file,
- while Truncate will set the file size to 0. I recommend
- setting the Delete Flag
-
- Delete Orphan
- Deletes TIC files that have no accompanying file. This can
- happen sometimes when connection fail or transmission errors
- occur.
-
- Message Conference
- Which conference to write incoming file announcements to. If
- this field is 0 or left blank it will not import an
- announcement. Valid conferences are 1 to the total number of
- conferences.

- Area Name
- Area Name is simply the FidoNet Area Tag name, FidoNet<tm>
- uses 8 characters maximum per area name, however TicIt allows
- up to 20 characters maximum per area name.
-
- Area Number
- Area Number is the corresponding area file in TriBBS. Press
- <Enter> to see a list of TriBBS file areas and use the arrow
- keys to select the area. Select <0> Pass Through File Area for
- passthrough areas.
-
- Uses AKA
- TicIt will use this address when sending out files.
-
- From AKA
- From AKA is for security. If you specify a node number, TicIt
- looks at each TIC file on the "From" verb line.
-
- Over Write
- If a file with the same name exists in the current directory,
- TicIt will fail the copy unless this option is set to "YES".
- Otherwise TicIt will not allow the import of a file with
- a name exactly the same in the <To> directory.
-
- Allow List
- Allow List does two things. If set to Yes, downlinks can use
- %LIST and view the area. If set to No, it's a security feature
- that won't allow downlinks to see the area. Even if they know
- it's there, they won't be able to add it via AllFix. You must
- manually add the area for them.
-
- Convert
- If set to Yes, TicIt will convert archive files to the type
- specified in the BBS Options menu. This option is great for
- NODELIST on the Fido backbone, as it won't convert the
- nodelist to a different format.

- The full path to the file you are hatching
-
- Area Name
- The area you are hatching a file into. Please note this is
- sometimes a specific area on some networks. For example
- Programmers Distribution Network uses PDNHATCH only for
- hatching into it.
-
- Description
- A short description of the file you are hatching.
-
- Magic Name
- Magic Name is a option field. It is used by some TIC
- processors to update a list of "Magic" Names that are often
- referred to when a FidoNet "FREQ" is made. A "FREQ" is simply
- a "F"ile REQ"uest.
-
- Replaces
- Replaces is an optional field, and specifies whether you want
- TicIt to include the Replaces verb in the outgoing TIC file.
- Replaces will replace a file on the receiving end if they
- allow it. This is useful for patches and updates. For example,
- I might specify that T_IT21B3.ZIP will be replaced when
- T_IT21B4.ZIP is hatched.
-
- Hatching Address
- The Hatching Address is the address of the system you're
- hatching to. This allows only one person to receive the file.
- Often useful for net's where you are not a hub point hatching
- to many people. If you are the hub point going to many people
- the TICIT SEND command line can send up to 25 nodes at a time.

- RUNNING TICIT
-
- To run TicIt, add something similar to the following to your
- frontend mailer's batch file where it processes received mail:
-
- cd \ticit
- ticit
- cd \im
-
- IMPORTANT: Because TicIt requires compression programs to function
- correctly, you must have copies of all of the compression programs
- in a directory that is in your DOS PATH.
-
-
- ALLFIX COMMANDS
-
- TicIt offers a number of AllFix commands that can be used by
- running TicIt using the following format at the DOS prompt:
-
- TICIT ALLFIX <command>
-
-
- This section will explain these AllFix commands in detail.
-
- TICIT ALLFIX MGR
- The MGR command instructs TicIt to scan and process any Allfix
- messages in the netmail directory.
-
- TICIT ALLFIX QUERY <FidoNet address>
- The FIND command lists all of the active areas for a specified
- node address.
-
- Example: tritoss allfix query 1:328/104
-
- TICIT ALLFIX ADD <FidoNet address> <Echo> <Echo> <...>
- The ADD command adds a specified node to one or more file echo
- areas.
-
- Example: tritoss allfix add 1:328/104 tribbs c_echo
-
- TICIT ALLFIX DELETE <FidoNet address> <Echo> <Echo> <...>
- The DELETE command deletes a specified node from one or more
- file echo areas.
-
- Example: tritoss allfix delete 328/104 comm fdecho
-
- TICIT ALLFIX NOTIFY
- The NOTIFY command will send a message to each of your AllFix
- nodes which lists all of the areas available to the node and
- which areas each node is active in.

- ALLFIX MESSAGES
-
- How do downlinks use TicIt's AllFix capabilities? Pretty easy,
- actually. They simply address a message to AllFix or TicIt at your
- system's address. On the subject line, they MUST put their AllFix
- password.
-
- In the body of an AllFix message, a downlink can turn file echos on
- and off by simply listing them one echo name per line. An echo will
- be deleted if it is preceded by a hypen (-). The list of echos must
- be followed by a tearline (---). Anything after the tearline is
- ignored by TicIt. The following commands may also be used:
-
- %QUERY - Sends back a list of connected areas.
- %LIST - Sends back a list of ALL the Hub's areas.
- %HELP - Sends a Help message.
- %PWD (password) - Allows the node to change their password.
-
-
- Here's an example body of an AllFix message:
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- +COMM
- +DBRIDGE
- +TRIBBS_SUPPORT
- -FDECHO
- %QUERY
- ---
- Hi! This is ignored by TicIt. :)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This message would instruct TicIt to turn on the COMM, DBRIDGE, and
- TRIBBS_SUPPORT echos and turn off the FDECHO. It also requests that
- a list of the current file areas to which this node is connected be
- sent back in a return message.

- HATCHING
-
- TicIt has direct support for hatching files into a filebone, or
- sending a file to many nodes below you. TicIt supports two modes;
- Automated and Sysop Intervention. Automated uses command line
- parameters to define the file to send, etc., while Manual requires
- the operator to be present to enter some data.
-
- To hatch, use the following command line:
-
- TICIT SEND
-
- Automated override commands may be listed in any order. All but the
- /S command can only be listed once. If any of these commands are
- missing from the command line, TicIt will ask you to fill in the
- gaps of information. Please take note of this.
-
- /F<filename> The filename of the file to be hatched.
-
- /A<areaname> The Area Name of the file echo this file belongs to.
-
- /S<node> The node this file will be sent to. Up to 30 "/S"
- parameters may be places on the command line. Instead
- of a node number in this parameter, you may use
- @<filename>, where filename is an ASCII file with a
- list of the nodes to send the file to. The @<filename>
- parameter may only be used in the first occurance of
- the "/S" parameter on the command line. A maximum of
- 30 nodes may be listed in the ASCII file.
-
- For example, TICIT.TXT is an ASCII file containing the
- following lines:
-
- TICIT.TXT
- ------------------------------------------------------
- 1:321/328
- 1:321/0
- 1:321/212
- ------------------------------------------------------
-
- The command line would be as follows:
-
- TICIT SEND /FTICIT.DOC /DTicIt /APROSOFT /S@TICIT.TXT
-
- /D<desc> Puts the description of the file into the tic file.

- SUPPORT
-
- I will provide support only for questions dealing directly with
- TicIt. As much as I would like to be able to, I just don't have the
- time to answer questions about how to setup a frontend mailer, a tic
- processer, etc.
-
- If you have a question about TicIt, a suggestion on how TicIt can be
- improved, or you suspect a bug, please feel to contact me on City
- Scape BBS (413-568-5241), through FidoNet (1:321/328), through
- Internet (dalger@map.com).
-
- The latest copy of TicIt may be FREQed with the magic name of TICIT.
